Bitterness & Unforgiveness
BITTERNESS AND UN-FORGIVENESS - THE MAIN CAUSE OF SPIRITUAL BONDAGE
by Pastor David & Christine Hall
The Bible book of Hebrews in chapter 12: tells us from verse 12:
12Therefore, lift up the hands which hang down and the feeble knees, 13and make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way, but let it rather be healed. 14Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord, 15looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness spring up to trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; 16lest there be any fornicator or profane person as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birth right. 17For ye know how afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected; for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.
We often come upon people in Deliverance ministry who are not sure why they feel the way they do and generally cannot understand how they have come under severe "demonic" attack.
One of the biggest problems in a person's life is hanging onto “UNFORGIVENESS” that leads to the “BITTER ROOT” mentioned in verse 15 above. Clinging on to bitterness or grudges is probably the most dangerous spiritual thing a person can do. It often causes physical sickness. It is so common that it is even endemic within the Church. One of the major causes of blockages and bondage's in the life of a Christian is that of un-forgiveness and hanging onto hurts and disappointments. All of us have experienced things in our lives such as disagreements, criticisms, accusations against us whether they are true or false. This actually affects our SOUL and that is what Satan uses to continually accuse us and keep us in sickness and recycling the hurt or perceived hurt from others.
The enemy will play on this and use anything he can to bring an accusation against Born Again believers as mentioned in Revelation 12: 10-11
10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven; now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
We cannot avoid these things happening. Jesus himself said that it was “impossible but that offences would come” (Luke 17:1). Offences, are ‘stumbling blocks’ which come against us…. things said and done to us to put us down and elevate the one saying those things. We can use the stumbling block in two different ways; we can either trip over it, or use it as a stepping stone to the next level. Often a ‘leader’ will try and browbeat us to come under theirs or someone else's will. They will use fear and intimidation even within the Church. All of this damages our SOUL.
These people are hirelings and seek to rid the Church of the real shepherds, teachers, evangelists and preachers and prophets of truth. They often do not realise what they are as the word tells us that they actually believe they are doing Gods will. No matter how well we handle relationships, etc., we will all face negative things being thrown at us. Some will ‘attack’ us if for no other reason but that they are jealous of us. As Christians we must accept that these things will happen in our lives. Notice the last part of verse 11 of Revelation 12, they “loved not their lives to the death” which means they died to their own feelings and allowed themselves to be wronged without retaliation.
So how do we deal with these attacks and negativity?
It is very important to realise that once the offence has happened, we cannot change what has taken place, just like when we spill something of value on the floor; we cannot put it back in the bottle and expect that it will be the same as before. However we can change how we react to it and what our response will be. During June 2011 the Lord woke me (David) up very early in the morning and said “the burden of the burdens is on the CROSS” Therefore the sooner we can take the burden to the Lord and leave it with Him and allow him to solve the problem, we will have peace. We can only leave the burdens with the Lord if we forgive those who have offended us or caused our burden in the first place. This will help heal the SOUL.
The sooner we do this the sooner we will be able to get on with our lives and continue to be fruitful in His service. But if we allow the criticisms to get into our emotions (limbic system) and cause us to re-act negatively and to ‘gossip’ about that person who has offended and hurt us, then it will get deeply into our soul and lodge there. Once we allow that to happen, we become the loser in that situation… even if the accusations are wrong! It is so important that we learn to keep short accounts with God and with people; otherwise we will start on a downward slippery slope that can cause us to finish up being very hurt, angry, resentful, ‘bitter and twisted’ and carrying a wounded spirit in the process. We cannot allow that to happen. Yet, we come across wounded Christians all the time that need to be set free...The sad, thing about this, is that often these dear hurt ones will not admit they have a deep seated problem.
Many who have a prophetic calling from the Lord have been ‘silenced’ or prevented from functioning in their anointing. This has caused many to be ‘shut down,’ carry their hurt and become introvert, which stifles their gifting and calling. Tragically, many Christian Leaders have been guilty of clamping down on those who are trying to exercise their Spiritual Gifts.
Regardless of who caused the offence we need to keep practising forgiveness. Let us emphasise strongly; ‘that carrying un-forgiveness in our heart is not worth it’! This is probably one of the hardest things for a human to do and that is to forgive terrible injustices against them.
What they do not understand is that the spirit that controls them is not from God but from the enemy as he transforms himself into an angel of ‘light’ but in reality he is evil and wants to corrupt and kill the sheep. This spirit is often brought into the church by members having connections with demonic organisations, such as the free masons, buffaloes and many other secret societies.
If a woman or a man in the church had Masonic forbears, this will affect them and will raise up the Jezebel spirit within the church. The Jezebel spirit is caused by demons who seek to kill off the 5 fold ministries and especially the prophetic and evangelistic. Therefore we need to put on the complete suit of armour (Ephesians 6), every day and pray that the enemy will not have his way in our lives. How can we praise the Lord and then curse or return bitter words to others? James told us in chapter 3:10-11
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth from the same place sweet water and bitter?
Nothing good can be gleaned from carrying bitterness in our heart. We can never justify to ourselves or others “holding onto un-forgiveness”. If you have any un-forgiveness in your heart, we encourage you to deal with it NOW and get rid of it. Take the hurt to JESUS and give it to Him. He is the only One who knows ALL things and can take it away from us.
When we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we did not add any conditions with that acceptance; we were very pleased to be able to serve him. Carrying un-forgiveness though does not please or serve Him at all. Jesus said in Matthew 5 that if we know that any brother has anything against us we are to make peace with him before we offer any praise or worship to the Lord. It is so serious that holding on to un-forgiveness prevents us from receiving forgiveness for our own sins.
If we have been responsible for any of these feelings and emotions or have even been guilty of controlling others with threats or fear, then we need to get on our knee’s and earnestly seek our Lords forgiveness and ask him to break off the ‘spirit of control’ off of our lives.
We cannot move forward with the Lord unless we deal with this…Therefore in conclusion let us come before the Lord Jesus Christ and give it all to Him and allow him to bring justice. To rid ourselves of the past SOUL HURTS, that cause illness, disease and continued bitterness and a feeling of worthlessness. Our prayers need to be directed towards our SOUL healing. We can ask the Holy Spirit to HEAL our SOUL, however we MUST repent of any bitterness or anger that has affected us for many years.
The blood of Yeshua/Jesus Christ will cleanse us of all our inner SOUL Hurts.

Further teaching from the Parable about forgiveness
In the parable Jesus gave in Matthew 18:23-35 The King did not overlook the Sin of the man before him, or even excuse it. In fact by 'Forgiving him, he placed a responsibility upon him to go and do the same to others. He now had to demonstrate the same forgiveness to others as the King displayed to him.
Many in Churches believe they are not responsible for the wrong they do others, because God is all loving and forgiving, which he is, but only if we display the same to others.
Matthew 6:15 contains the well known verse that Millions have parroted down through the Centuries and yet those same people have enslaved others, beaten wives and cheated people out of their possessions and so on. "Jesus clearly stated in verse 15, that if we do not forgive others, we will not be forgiven and this is NOT optional.
Do not believe you will go to be with the Lord if you do not forgive the most evil of crimes committed against you or your loved ones.
If you are affected by past bitterness and cannot let it go, then that is what this Ministry is here for. We want to bring healing to people who are affected by trauma, abuse or evil deeds perpetrated upon them personally or their family. We have also been through many past trauma's and hurts and we have been greatly helped by Loving Christians who understand how to Minister and help people with deep Soul Spirit hurts and other deep rooted disappointments in their lives.
